Many kids cite athletes and sports stars as their role models. Going back, you could point to the stars who kept their personal life mostly private, like Michael Jordan, and the stars whose personal life became public in a not-so-positive way, like Tiger Woods. One thing you didn’t see much of was the superstar pro athlete who lived publicly — and did so in a wholesome, family-first way.
Until Steph Curry. The two-time reigning NBA MVP is just 28 years old, a Millennial himself. He has revolutionized the game of basketball, with his heroic long-distance buzzer beaters and his effortless and unmatched three-point shooting (no NBA player had ever made more than 300 three-pointers, until Curry made more than 400 this year).
But who Steph Curry is off the court is revolutionary as well. Curry is married to his college sweetheart Ayesha, and the couple have two kids, Riley (a star in her own right) and Ryan. They have chosen to live publicly, each with their own vast social media following, specifically on Instagram.
Curry has blazed a new path as a doting father and devoted husband — suddenly, being a dad and great husband is cool. This month they graced the cover of Parents magazine, featuring a lengthy Q&A with Steph and Ayesha.
“The thing I love about him is that he’s not too cool for school,” she said. “He’ll get down on the floor and play with the girls. He’ll put on dress-up clothes if he has to, and he’s very patient, which is something I’m not.”
Just the NBA’s most valuable player two years in a row and a rapper, talking about diapers and day care.
