CLEVELAND – I was there on the floor with the Chairman of the Republican Party of Rhode Island, Brandon Bell, when Senator Ted Cruz finished his speech without endorsing Donald Trump. In a very tense moment, the crowd began booing and shouting at Cruz to endorse Trump, when Donald Trump himself appeared in the arena to take his seat.
Bell said, “I just can’t believe it, I’m kind of speechless about the whole thing. The crowd wanted to hear an endorsement. Donald Trump came out towards the end and here we are, the floor still has a little bit of division within the convention.”
He continued, “I heard vote your conscience and that’s what they tried to get delegates, not necessarily they meaning Cruz, but the delegates unbound folks trying to get done at the rules committee. But it didn’t happen, so vote your conscience is not part of the rules. Not that anyone can force anyone to do anything on November 8.”
Bell is pretty confident that all 19 delegates from Rhode Island will unify to vote for Donald Trump. “I still hope we walk out of here a unified party.”
