What’s the difference between a milkshake and a smoothie? A milkshake consists of mostly milk and ice cream while a smoothie is made up of fruits and/or veggies and can sometimes consist of a milk product. A smoothie also has a puree icy texture. In many cases it can be healthier than a milkshake. I’m a busy mom and on days that I need to get out of the house early smoothies are my go to for my family. You can blend all your favorite fruits with selected veggies to make sure you don’t skip out on certain nutrients. I love to add oatmeal to thicken the smoothie making it more filling while adding fiber. Banana is a favorite in our household because it’s packed with low saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium. Just control your intake because it can also become high in carbs as well in sugar if it’s too ripen. It is also a good source of dietary fiber, vitamin C, potassium, manganese and vitamin B6. Why is vitamin B6 so important? Because it contains serotonin and norepinephrine which affect your mood. We all want to start our day in good spirits don’t we? In addition, this recipe contains almond milk which has 50% more calcium than cow’s milk and last but not least… peanut butter! Yay! Peanuts contains vitamin E, magnesium, phosphorus and folate. This is great for children and vegetarians since they usually eat less to no meat. Perhaps that’s why the King of Rock n’ Roll (Elvis Presley) loved his peanut butter and banana sandwich so much. It gave him the energy he needed to rock! You’re one sip away from dancing like Elvis, so rock on!!!
Gather all your ingredients…
Add all the ingredients into your blender. Add the ice last so it doesn’t water down the smoothie.
Now add the ice and blend on high speed.
Pour and enjoy immediately. CAUTION! THIS IS HIGHLY ADDICTIVE.
Until next time… Save me a seat at your table! Enjoy!
