The word Tandoor comes from north India and Pakistan, it means clay oven, fired by wood or charcoal to cook meats and bake breads. Tandoori (chicken, lamb or fish) is a protein that has been marinated in citrus, yogurt and spices then broiled or grilled. In our household, Indian food is a weekly staple I decided to give an Americanized twist.
In a large bowl place the chicken, lemon juice, spices, ginger, tumeric, cucumber, onion, and a portion of the yogurt. Mix well and form 4 patties. Fire up the grill! Once it’s nice and hot cook the patties on a medium-high grill, about 5 minutes per side.
Grill the Naan bread for about 30 seconds on each side. You want light grill marks.Remove the patties and naan from the grill and layer with the fresh onions, cucumber and a handful of cilantro.
In a separate bowl mix the yogurt, mint, cumin, ginger, lemon juice and zest. Set to the side.
While the the patties are cooking, slice your red onions, cucumber and cilantro for garnish.
Plate and dallop the yogurt sauce on top. I personally love a little heat so I drizzle siracha over mine. Serve while hot. Until next time… Save me a seat at your table!

If I don’t have a grill can cook in a pan on the stove top?
Hello Ivanna! Great question… Yes you can cook the patties in a pan or what I prefer to do is broil the burgers. Use a broiler safe pan and cover it with aluminum foil (which makes for easy clean up), drizzle a small amount olive oil on each patty and set the broiler on low-medium. Be careful not to add to much oil because broilers can cause a lot of smoke. My broiler is set by numbers 1 to 3, 1 being the highest. In this case I would set it on 2. Keep in mind chicken should always be cooked thoroughly so to be safe use a thermometer. The safe cooking temperature for all poultry products is 165 ºF. I hope this helps. I would love to see how your burgers turn out so feel free to tag @boldtv. Thank you for your inquiry and have a BOLD weekend! ; )
