“Artificial intelligence is everywhere,” according to Rob Verger, assistant technology editor at Popular Science. This should not scare you, though, Verger told Bold Business, because artificial intelligence, or “A.I.,” is most often used in “mundane” ways to help “power things behind the scenes.” Verger cited popular apps like Yelp and Bumble, which use forms of A.I. to sort photos according to food type, in the case of Yelp, or to identify explicit photos on Bumble. “It’s a good reminder that A.I. is doing things that are actually kind of boring and not scary,” Verger said. He doesn’t anticipate the relationship between humans and machines turning apocalyptic anytime soon: “I think that something like A.I. is going to make our lives better and augment our abilities, as opposed to taking us over.”
