The Daily Caller reports that six Republican senators did not attend Donald Trump’s meeting on Thursday at the Capitol Hill Club. The six senators running for re-election included Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Mark Kirk of Illinois, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvanian, Rand Paul of Kentucky, John McCain of Arizona, and Marco Rubio of Florida.
Excuses varied among the candidates with some having pre-scheduled meetings and others simply unware of the event.
McCain told The Daily Caller, “I’m chairman of the Armed Services Committee. We scheduled this hearing a couple of months ago. So I can’t just walk out of there.”
A large number of the Party’s representatives also declined Trump’s invite. Of those who did attend, including Senator Rob Portman, were the Republican Nominee’s loyal supporters who welcomed him with two standing ovations.
