GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump is keeping his lead above other candidates with voters for the South Carolina primary set for Feb. 20. According to a new poll by Public Policy Polling, Trump is favored by voters with 35 percent. Senator Marco Rubio and Sen. Ted Cruz are tied for second place with 18 percent. Ohio Gov. John Kasich is holding third place with 10 percent. Former Gov. Jeb Bush and Dr. Ben Carson are tied for last place with seven percent of the vote.
Trump has been aggressive with his South Carolina campaign by beefing up his media interviews and social media campaigns. Trump’s twitter and social media accounts have been pushing the hashtag #votetrumpsc. The outspoken nature and aggressive attitude could be responsible for the voter interest. His “Make America Great Again” campaign led by the billionaire businessman has kept the race for the nation’s highest office controversial. From immigration to the war on terror, Trump has expressed his opinion on the internet and in town hall meetings.
Cruz and Rubio have been on Trump’s heels snatching the lead from him in the Iowa Caucus, but quickly losing it in New Hampshire. Trump made a strong comeback there grabbing 35.3 percent of the vote, the Associated Press reported.
Among Democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders continue to fight for the top spot among the party. Sanders took the lead among the Democratic party candidates with 60.1 percent of the vote, crushing former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s lead in New Hampshire. Clinton had 38.2 percent of the vote, Realclearpolitics.com reported.
