Donald Trump has become a household name across America, but have you ever considered that he could be a member of your household himself?
The people over at AncestorCloud did, which is why they created the website Cousin Trump.
Co-founders Wesley Eames and Mikey Murphy decided to create the website to draw more attention to genealogy by making it relevant to a current hot topic, which they did by using one of the country’s biggest names right now. Plus, who isn’t a little curious to see if they share a great, great, great uncle with Trump?
AncestorCloud connects people with genealogy professionals who can help them organize their family history. Eames explained to Tech Insider, “We already have the technology to match up people. We thought it would be a fun way to get it out that you can know these things about your family.”
The site links to your Facebook account so it can get your basic information (name, birthday, birth place) and also takes the information of your family members who have Facebook accounts. If your family members don’t have Facebook, you can fill in the information yourself. The more info you have, the more accurate your results will be.
I wanted to see for myself how Cousin Trump worked, whether I was going to like my results or not, so I logged on and got started. Because my dad is the only member of my immediate family with Facebook, I had to put a majority of the info in myself, but I was able to fill it out 100 percent. I submitted my information, and it wasn’t long before it revealed my results.
The result: 26th cousins. Well, I guess that means I probably don’t have to worry about running into Trump at my next family reunion.
Along with my results, Cousin Trump displays a brief explanation of what similarities Trump and I might have with our distant cousinship. Mine says our indecisive natures are similar, which honestly, and to my dismay, is not far off the mark for me. Maybe we’re more alike than I thought? (Don’t worry, Mom, not too alike!)
Eames revealed to Tech Insider that the cousin matching isn’t stopping at Trump. In his words, it’s “just the beginning.”
So start looking forward to who you’ll be able to find a relation to next. Personally? I’m hoping there will be a Cousin Taylor Swift in the near future. I always thought we’d get along.
