The holidays are here again and that office party is just around the corner. Whether it’s one of your favorite work functions or least favorite, you’ll most likely be in attendance.
This can give you the opportunity to talk to your managers in a more casual setting. It’s a great time to help yourself stand out to them, but a bad outfit choice can make you stand out in the wrong way. This may be a party, but it’s still a work function, which means dress code rules are still in place.
The biggest mistakes you can make is showing too much cleavage and too much leg. You also don’t want to wear anything too tight, like a bandage dress. Save these dresses for your outside of work functions.
That doesn’t mean you can’t wear a great dress to the party and still look stunning.
You don’t have to be completely wrapped up either. A conservative neckline and knee line hems are the safest bet. You can also wear a nice fit and flare dress. It’s a fabulous look and is great for a party too. No matter what kind of party. Another option is a sweater dress. This look is great for the holidays.

If you need any inspiration just take note of Kate Middleton. She attends numerous functions throughout the year and she always looks on point. She’s always beautiful, but appropriately dressed for the function she’s attending. If you find style inspiration from her, you’ll never go wrong.
Another no-no is anything shear. So many clothes are made a little bit see-through. Make sure you check your wardrobe choice in the right lighting. You don’t want to be surprised or surprise your co-workers when you get to the party.
When you get the invitation, check what the dress attire is. This will help you choose your look more easily. You don’t want to wear an ugly Christmas sweater, if it’s a more formal evening. You could still wear a nice sweater paired with a nice skirt or pants, though.
Your best bet is to follow your typical office dress code rules and whatever the invitation said. Combining these two things will make sure you are dressed appropriately for the evening.
Sleeve length will depend on your dress code rules. It’s a safe bet that at least a cap sleeve is appropriate. If the sleeveless dress is okay in your work place, I would look to Michelle Obama on how to wear it appropriately. She made the sleeveless dress appropriate. If you aren’t sure, go with a sleeve or a nice sweater or blazer over it to complete the look.
All of these dress rules doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. This is the time you can accessorize, but don’t go over board.
A statement necklace and understated earrings are a great choice. You can also wear statement earrings and no necklace.
