Bold TV: What are your thoughts on this petition from Change.org, titled: Provide Media Coverage for our US Citizens in the Virgin Islands Disaster Relief Efforts. Is it helpful?
Plaskett and Her Team: This is very helpful. One thing that we will have to do is continue to remind the world that the US Virgin Islands, Paradise as it’s called, will have a long recovery in terms of getting back to normal. What Change.org is facilitating will only help us keep the people of the US Virgin Islands in the world’s thoughts and prayers.
B: Is there another pressing need related to hurricane relief that another petition could help with?
P: We will be needing supplies and medicine for now. Down the road we will need people who would like to come to the US Virgin Islands to help in the rebuilding effort.
B: In general, what else can we (stateside) do to help?
P: Just pray for the people in the Caribbean who have suffered through one of the most catastrophic hurricanes of our life time. The people of the Caribbean are a resilient people – we will come back from this but it’s important for the world to know we are going to need your help.
B: What charity do you prefer we donate to that is the most reliable and has the most direct benefit to you?
P: The Red Cross has been great. We ask that donations go their if possible. Next, we have local Virgin Island Associations all over the country collecting goods. Lastly you can go to the Facebook page at USVI Hurricane Irma Alert for more information on where to give.
