Naughty By Nature’s Vin Rock joined Bold Life; we asked him about his work in the music industry and what he hopes his legacy will be. Vin discussed how he and the other members of Naughty By Nature are still “hands on” in their hometown of East Orange, New Jersey, and how they’re helping to rebuild the city.
We asked him about the “Buy Back the Block” movement and he said, “Everyone knows that the African-American community has a lot of disposable income, and now it’s about taking that income and reinvesting in our hood…You really have to invest and literally own the block.”
“It’s about maturity — in our communities, we’ve struggled though the ’40s, ’50s, ’60s, you know. And now we really don’t have as many excuses. Of course you’re going to have resistance and racism out there but, again, we have wealth, we have disposable income. It’s time to grow up and mature and do grown things — and do grown things with your money.”
