Ocean Robbins’ family is famous for ice cream, but surprisingly, he’s devoted his life to healthy eating. He saw firsthand how diet can affect someone’s health when his grandfather — the founder of Baskin-Robbins — suffered from serious heart problems and Type 2 diabetes.
“We have seen in our family that when we follow the standard American diet, we get the standard American diseases,” Robbins (pictured) said in an interview with Bold TV. Robbins, along with his father, departed from their family legacy and launched Food Revolution Network to promote healthy and sustainable food for all.
Robbins’ new book, “31-Day Food Revolution: Heal Your Body, Feel Great, and Transform Your World,” has 31 chapters and 31 steps to health — instead of Baskin-Robbins’ signature 31 ice cream flavors.
“I want to be as good at marketing health as my grandpa was at marketing ice cream,” Robbins said.
His book outlines how to have a healthy diet and lifestyle that is also eco-conscious. Robbins also promotes eating more whole plant foods and less animal products, but understands those who don’t want to commit to being fully vegetarian or vegan. He pointed out that even small steps can help us move in the right direction.
“With our food choices, we can actually make a huge impact on the planet to stop climate change — to save water and topsoil, so future generations can grow food to contribute to a world where everybody has access to healthy food,” Robbins told Bold TV.
Where does ice cream and his family’s legacy fit into all this?
“Well an ice cream cone’s not going to kill anybody,” Robbins said, and emphasized that we all indulge “once in awhile,” and that’s okay.
