“I have been told for many years in my life that women that look like me…you don’t do that, you don’t put yourself out there,” Radke told Bold Life.
After the night of her 41st birthday — and after making a wish to live a braver life — she decided to do it. Her risk paid off; she started posting videos and the third one she posted now has 100 million views across social media. The vlogger, author and speaker has a gained a huge audience with her hilarious videos, including rants about her kids’ school and fake beauty tutorials. Her personality is infectious and now even brands like the USA Network are interested (an unscripted family sitcom about Radke and her family is in the works).
She discussed why audiences are drawn to voices like hers:
“It doesn’t matter what you look like. What matters is your story. That’s what people respond to, not whether you have [an] elastic waist in your pants (which I do by the way). They relate to you and your story and your heart.”
She added that no one should ever be scared of sharing or of being too vulnerable. “Honey, the story that you are the most scared to share is the one that will heal the world,” Radke said. “Trust me.”
Radke has put her story into a book, which is out now. “Eat Cake. Be Brave.” explores the difficult issues of empowerment, self-worth and aging.
