In an Op-Ed piece from the Los Angeles Times, conservative analyst James Kirchick questions whether or not the GOP base would still accept a man like Donald Trump if he were instead an African-American named Donell Trump. With the racist, sexist, xenophobic, and violent remarks Donald Trump has made in the past, Kirchick writes that if Donald Trump was a different race the GOP would reject him immediately. Kirchick argues the reason the GOP would reject Donell Trump and accept Donald Trump is due to a racial double standard in the Republican Party and conservative media world.
Per Kirchick, as stated below:
“My point is that the very voters and media personalities who would almost certainly condemn Donell have embraced Donald, which indicates the degree to which a racial double standard exists at the core of the Republican Party and conservative media world. Replace the outer-borough white ethnic vulgarity with African American ghetto vernacular and they’d call the man a “thug.””
