USA Today reports that this presidential election is unique because the extraordinary has already happened, which is evident in Trump being the candidate to represent the Republican Party.
This just goes to show that anything is possible, including the potential for a third-party candidate to take the election.
Gabriel Schoenfeld provides five reasons why the #NeverTrump movement could make some competition for the Democratic Party based on Trump’s weaknesses. These weaknesses include, but aren’t limited to, his non-presidential antics, the news media about him, his not releasing his tax returns, and his policies.
The combination of these factors backs up a valid point that Schoenfeld brings up: “If a credible conservative independent candidate is in the race, he or she will be there to rescue the Republican Party from its folly and rescue the country from a brush with the least-qualified and most temperamentally unfit major-party candidate in all of U.S. history.”
