I’m the editor and video producer for the tech section here at Bold Global. I’ve always been intrigued by technology. I distinctly remember being introduced to technology through the VTech computer I received for Christmas when I was in kindergarten. The historian in me is really intrigued by the ways in which technology over time has redefined modes of communication, access to resources, and our relationships in the world and to each other.
Over the past couple of years, I became an avid consumer of tech news, specifically in the online video technology space (VOD/ OTT). It’s fascinating the ways that voices and narratives traditionally deemed “too niche” to receive funding from mainstream studios and networks are finding new homes online including in the form of web series, TV shows, and six-second Vine videos. Technology is allowing filmmakers to create feature films, including the 2015 Sundance hit Tangerine, on an iPhone. I mean this all to say, there such a great opportunity but equally responsibility that comes with those creating our technology.
Although I am more of a consumer of technology than a producer, I am fascinated by other people’s journeys into tech. In April 2015, I launched Ivy Startup Magazine with my good friend Teni where we spotlight founders, investors, and advisors in the startup world who are affiliated with the Ivy League.
As relative outsiders to the startup world who wanted learn more about the companies doing good in the world, we started Ivy Startup Mag. Since our first spotlight on Fon Powell at S.A.L.T went live in June, we have been able to reach thousands of unique viewers in ninety-eight countries.
Some core lessons I’ve learned working on Ivy Startup Magazine:
As I begin this journey as curating tech content for Bold Global, we’ll explore the social impact of technology through a really compelling, interactive lens of both first-hand accounts, investigative pieces, and reviews. We will have a combination of editorial, video, and podcasts from technologists and tech enthusiasts of all backgrounds and experiences. The tech section will include everything from startups to virtual reality to health and wellness apps to Ecommerce to education to everything in between.
