Commissioner Mignon L. Clyburn stopped by Silicon Harlem on a “Listening Tour” to engage with the community on Friday.
A stop on her commenting communities tour, she connected with several community leaders in Harlem, including Borough President Gail Brewer, discussing how the FCC can help bring the community out of the “digital desert.”
Her plan: “Leveraging technology to meet you where you are … byte by byte.”
Highlights included directives to engage with companies to bring them physically to Harlem, the systemic issues with education in the community, working with communication companies such as Verizon to improve the services provided to consumers, and showing up to local community events to provide a voice on how to allocate tools such as community block development grants.
The event was sponsored by Silicon Harlem, a hub for technical innovation in Harlem, New York.
