Trump’s Newest Executive Order Aims To Slash Federal Regulations

Our Opportunity Lives guest on Bold TV sees the “greatest flaw” in President Donald Trump’s executive order signed on Jan. 30 is that it doesn’t go far enough.

That executive order aims to slash federal regulations by eliminating two regulations for every one adopted. On Feb. 3, staff writer for Opportunity Lives, Evan Smith discussed his op-ed “Why Trump’s Anti-Regulation Executive Order Is His Best Move So Far.”

Evan explained how this is an important move for Trump, saying that although a lot of these regulations are deemed as big things that will affect the environment, at the end of the day, it’s just small people, small businesses and small farmers who are being hurt by them.

“When you’re making regulations to help out and solve the problems made by other regulations, you’re kind of in a pit of despair,” Evan said.

In layman’s terms, Clay furthered that statement: “Doctors don’t prescribe medication to reduce the effect of other medication.”

Carrie chimed in, adding that regulations often disproportionally hurt poor, low-income and people of color. They are less likely to have an army of lawyers helping them sift through the hundreds of thousands of pages in the federal register. “If you don’t have a huge investor to back you, you’re not going to be able to comply with all these regulation,” she said.

Evan believes the U.S. is “overburdened” with too many regulations that are too specific, which end up causing more problems than they solve.

He said, “All of [President Obama’s] executive orders were done very specifically and for a legal means and getting something accomplished. Trump on the other hand is a showman, so I think most of his executive orders are for the sake of media, generating headlines [and] making sure his supporters know he’s doing what he said he was going to do.”
